A whole day dedicated to Mothers everywhere. A whole day to spoil them rotten and show appreciation for all the bottoms they wipe, shopping bags they lug, tears they dry and the school uniform they fold. What a great idea.
Like many great ideas ('re-sealable' packets, inviting the whole class to a party, having a glass of wine before Parents' Evening) the reality doesn't always match up to the vision.
I do love my annual breakfast-in-bed, but most of it is usually spilt halfway up the stairs by a giggly pre-schooler tripping over their pjs. What remains is munched (not by me, obviously) until my bed is full of crumbs. The tea is cold, and someone has used a daffodil to stir it.
So, this year we've rooted out some gifts that should genuinely cheer up even the most exhausted of Mummies on Mother's Day.
I will be leaving the list open on my laptop in the hope something makes it onto that breakfast tray. Go on, do the same. You absolutely deserve it.
